Hi! I'm so glad you're here!
My work as an author is a dream come true ... When I was in second grade, I used to finish my classwork at my desk and then turn my paper over so I could write a story or poem on the back. My teacher saw this and got me my own notebook, just for my writing! I was so touched that she thought my writing was important enough to have a home in its own notebook!
At age 8, I decided I would someday be a published author. It took years and years, ideas, and ideas, drafts and drafts, rejections and rejections ... Until my dream finally came true in 2015 with the publication of my first picture book, The Muddy Foot Prince. Now, I have six books and a seventh on the way! It's been a lot of fun, and I'm so happy to have you as part of my journey.
One of the best parts of my job as an author is visiting schools to share my books with young learners. Each of my stories has messages of kindness, love, and friendship. It's a joy to share these values, and I consider every one of my readers to be a new friend. What a wonderful thing to colllect - friends! If you'd like me to visit your school, please email me at alicia@AliciaMurphyBooks.com.
The Muddy Foot Prince is the tale of Prince Oliver James Huntington IV, who loves to explore nature, splash in puddles, and get dirty, just like any young boy. The problem? He's a prince. He's supposed to play quiet, refined games. He's told to keep his good clothes clean and his royal bedroom tidy. Constantly in trouble for getting into mischief, the prince decides to venture out on his own. Things don't turn out as he plans ... But Prince Oliver isn't the only one to learn a lesson. Whimsical yet touching, The Muddy Foot Prince proves to be a relatable tale for readers of all ages!
It may be a new age, surrounded by new technology, but our core values still remain the same. In the "feel-good" spirit of Free to Be You and Me and Shel Silverstein, there is a new, fresh voice on the scene, sending our youngest generation, through humor and rhyme, messages of strong self-esteem, the importance of YOU and lessons of kindness. Enhanced by the adorable and comical art of Rachael Balsaitis, this collection is also destined to become a favorite for generations to come.
Haley is a happy child, but she worries A LOT. When she's worrying, she pulls out her hair, eyelashes, and eyebrows. Soon others begin to notice, and Haley feels ashamed.
After meeting a little girl who doesn't have any hair, Haley discovers creative ways to avoid pulling by keeping her hands busy. Her "hair-brained idea" becomes a project rooted in kindness that brings happiness to both Haley and her new friend.
This book aims to give hope and encouragement to children who pull out their hair. Its suggested solutions are helpful ... Its messages of kindness and compassion are an added bonus!
Abby is kind and fun-loving. SO fun-loving, in fact, that she often finds it hard to control her behavior. Tired of being scolded all the time, Abby becomes grumpy toward her family and friends. It isn't until her mommy looks into her sad, frustrated eyes one day that Abby begins to understand why she acts the way she does. Their mother / daughter heart-to-heart talk is a whole new start for Abby, as she now feels empowered to take control of her ADHD and find ways to keep it in check.
Crabby Abby is meant to serve as a "starter kit" for the child and family when an ADHD diagnosis is received. It explains ADHD in simple terms, so that even the youngest readers can understand it. The book also presents the struggles and feelings of the affected child and family in a way that will appeal to them. Children love stories about animals, and the play on words (a crab who is in fact "crabby") keeps the mood light while dealing with a sensitive topic. This book addresses the condition without being too wordy or scientific. Ideas for organizational charts as well as a template for the creation of the child's own "book of feelings" are offered. Children will realize that their emotions go hand in hand with their ADHD symptoms. They will also be reminded how special and lovable they are!
This nostalgic book takes us back to a simpler time when being with family was the best feeling in the world. The lessons of television's iconic Little House on the Prairie are still being embraced by audiences worldwide, even thirty years after the passing of its creator, lead actor, director, and producer, Michael Landon. Author Alicia Hogan Murphy has comprised a collection of episode segments and cast reflections to honor the brilliance of Michael Landon and emphasize the timeless values and uplifting messages taught by his hit television series. Some of the topics touched on include staying positive, instilling courage in our kids, addressing racism and prejudice, dealing with bullying, being honest with ourselves, discipline, and having selfless concern for others. Earning praise and enthusiasm from cast members, the book offers a much-needed feeling of hope, community, and laughter, much like the show did.It is a refreshing journey into the past that will bring a sense of calm to the reader's present.
